First off, his middle name 'Wallace' is after Eric's Dad's uncle Wally. He was a beloved uncle and family member, and we wanted to honor Eric's paternal side of the family with Pete's middle name.
As for his first name, we knew we wanted something traditional and kind of old school. We see ourselves as 'down home' kinda folks and wanted a name that reflected that. Nothing too hoity toity. :) We liked some famous athlete names from the old days, but I couldn't talk Eric into 'Mickey, Cam, Ty or Cal' :) (i.e. Mantle, Cobb, Ripken, etc.) In thinking about basketball names, I even threw out Wilt (like Wilt Chamberlain) until Eric informed me of his infamously negative reputation (see Wikipedia, LOL.)
The name 'Pete' was first tossed around when baby man was in utero, as Eric often called him Pistol Pete, like the famous basketball player. Little did he know that we'd actually name him that! I felt like the name 'Pete' could be appropriate for anything from an investment banker to a plumber. Lastly, Peter in the Bible is one of my favorite characters. He was one of Jesus' closest friends, most passionate followers, and biggest recipients of grace. Our kinda guy.
So there it is!
