Eric was blessed with the opportunity to go to New Orleans on a missions trip with our church this past week. The temperatures were in the 60's and 70's most of the week, allowing ample use of his summer shorts collection. He was in his element getting to do hands-on work with a few of his best guy friends, and getting to know some other great guys from church.
Here is the whole crew:
A few highlights from the trip:
- Eating lots of amazing authentic food including (but not limited to): BBQ in Memphis, Creme Brulee at Emeril's personal restaurant, New Orleans gumbo, jumbalaya, po' boys, etc.
- Getting to enjoy some deep discussion with the guys on the TWENTY hour drive down.
- Some not-so-deep moments: getting horrible songs stuck in each other's heads i.e. "Bye Bye Miss American Pie, and "Sunglasses at night..." or soaking and freezing one guy's entire underwear supply.
- Seeing the sights: New Orleans 'Ninth Ward', the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, etc; and the home of Tabasco in Avery Island, LA.
Whenever Eric travels he goes on some major kick for a good 4-6 weeks following, and this trip has brought on a Tabasco kick. We have 4 full sized bottles of different flavors and haven't gone a meal without them coming out of the cupboard. A small price to pay to have him back in the state!
I guess you can take the guy out of the North, but you can't take the Northerner out of the guy.
